Historic Country Accommodations

Middlethorpe Hall offers 29 rooms and suites in a 1699 William and Mary country house and adjacent 18th-century courtyard. Rooms feature antique furniture, fine paintings, and views of the gardens or courtyard. All include flat-screen TVs, DVD players, Nespresso machines, and Penhaligon Quercus toiletries. Four courtyard suites have separate sitting rooms with king-size beds. The Garden Suite includes a dining room, two bedrooms, and kitchen, while Cottage Suites feature private gardens 50 yards from the main house.

Award-Winning Dining Experience

The 2 AA Rosette restaurant serves breakfast, Saturday and Sunday luncheons, and candlelit dinners in The Oak Room and The Pineapple Room. Head Chef Ashley Binder creates a six-course tasting menu for £105 per person, using produce from the hotel's walled kitchen garden. The full Yorkshire breakfast includes local pork sausage, black and white pudding, and poached haddock with egg. Afternoon Tea features Hoogly Tea blends and is served in the drawing rooms for £42 per person.

Spa and Wellness Facilities

Middlethorpe Spa occupies two listed Edwardian cottages with an indoor swimming pool, sauna, steam room, and gymnasium. Three treatment rooms offer Aromatherapy Associates facials and massages, Shellac and Mii nail treatments, and holistic therapies including reflexology and Reiki. Children aged 8-16 may use the pool at specified times. Spa members receive unlimited access to facilities and complimentary afternoon tea or luncheon for two.

York Countryside Location

Middlethorpe Hall is 3.5 km from York city center and 50 km from Leeds Bradford Airport. The property sits on 20 acres of gardens and parkland featuring a walled kitchen garden, rose garden, white garden with Wisteria Floribunda, and a lake. It is 3 km from York Minster, York Castle Museum, and Jorvik Viking Centre. The hotel provides free parking and is accessible via Bus #7 to Central Station.

Event and Family Services

The hotel hosts weddings and events in The Barlow Room (capacity 45), The Grill Room (capacity 56), or outdoor marquees on the south lawn. Family suites interconnect through private corridors, and well-behaved dogs receive beds, water bowls, and snacks. Business meetings utilize The Boardroom with sitting room or syndicate rooms in the courtyard suites. The dedicated wedding planner assists with civil ceremonies conducted by York Register Office.

“What stands out is the hotel's history and the meticulous care of its grounds. It's easy to imagine relaxing in the spa, followed by afternoon tea. The restaurant's dedication to local produce, coupled with its proximity to York, makes it a balanced retreat.”

I am grateful i experienced middlethorpe. a warm atmosphere occurred throughout. we stayed in a courtyard cottage. It included two bathrooms so we did not share. we walked the grounds. It included a walled garden and a wildlife pond.
The room looked dated. the bed was short. the breakfast was overpriced. The quality did not match the price.
